The UDR Benevolent Fund is a grant assisting organisation and works closely with a network of trusted partners across Northern Ireland to ensure those who served receive the right support at the right time. By collaborating with organisations such as The Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund, SSAFA, Veterans Welfare Service, Brooke House and others, we’re able to connect veterans and their families with a wider range of services. Ranging from welfare advice and mental health support to housing and financial assistance. These partnerships strengthen our ability to respond effectively to individual needs and ensure no one is left unsupported.

A member of our team will talk you through the process and help gather any information we need to assess your request. In some cases, we will arrange for one of our partner organisations to carry out a home visit or follow-up call or to complete an application form.

These caseworkers, whose knowledge and expertise are of the highest level, will deal with any issue sensitively and confidentially, however as part of a grant application process, personal information and supporting documentation will be required. Every application is considered on a case-by-case basis, with compassion, respect, and discretion.

Who is eligible to apply for support from The UDR Benevolent Fund?
Support is available to former members of The Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR), their dependants, and in some cases, the families of deceased members.
Yes, you will be asked for proof of service to confirm your eligibility. This could include a discharge certificate, service number, or other official documentation. If you don’t have these records readily available, don’t worry, contact us and we’ll do our best to help you retrieve the necessary information.
Yes. There is no time limit on when you served. If you are facing hardship or in need of support, you are encouraged to apply regardless of when your service took place.
Yes. Dependants and family members of veterans, who were killed by terrorist action are eligible for assistance, particularly in cases of financial hardship or welfare need.
Yes. If you served in the Regiment, you still qualify for support. Your circumstances will be assessed with care and understanding.
No. This is only open to those who previously served with the UDR. We would advise you to connect with The Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund.
Yes. Receiving support elsewhere does not disqualify you from applying to us. We often work in partnership with other charities to provide the most effective help.
